STORAGE TIPS
• Use smaller boxes for books and heavy items.
• Use larger boxes for lighter items.
• Reinforce the bottom of boxes with at least one strip of packing tape.
• Pack boxes firmly to prevent contents from shifting.
• Seal boxes tightly with wide packing tape.
• Pack records and CDs vertically; stacking them flat can cause warping or bending.
• Place heavier items at the bottom of the box and lighter items on top.
- Rent or buy an appliance dolly for moving furniture, major appliances, and stacks of boxes.
- For major appliances, refer to the user manuals for specific moving and safety instructions.
- Clean and dry the interiors of all appliances.
- Secure all movable parts with tape or ties.
- Keep in mind that moving heavy furniture and appliances requires more than one person—be sure to get assistance.
- Disassemble the bed frame and label each piece for easy reassembly.
- Use packing tape to secure the rails together.
- Wrap mattresses in plastic mattress cover for protection.
- Never pack more than 30 pounds of books in a single box.
- Alternate the bindings and cushion the books with packing paper for added protection.
- Hang closet clothing in wardrobe boxes or plastic garment bags.
- Store dresser drawer clothing in sturdy cardboard boxes, and if there's extra space, fill it with bubble wrap for added protection.
- Wrap items in bubble wrap and stack them in a large box filled with bubble wrap or packing peanuts.
- Remove light bulbs, harps, and lampshades from lamps.
- Wrap artwork and mirrors in paper, then cover them with cardboard for protection.
- Wrap each fragile item individually with bubble wrap and secure it with packing tape.
- Layer the wrapped items in a sturdy cardboard box, using packing peanuts or wadded paper between them.
- Add a final layer of peanuts or wadded paper on top, then seal the box and label it.
